About Jess
Hi, I’m Jess Hines, a Clinical Mental Health Counselor Student at Liberty University. I chose the therapy field because there is genuinely not a bone in my body that doesn’t want to help people! Children, families, individuals who have never had support, people who have never had someone truly in their corner – I want to show up for all of them. My “why” is simple: I want to help make the world I want to live in – a kinder, happier place, one person at a time.
Before stepping into the therapy room, I spent years as a third-grade teacher and worked closely with children and adults with disabilities. Those experiences didn’t just shape my approach – they built it. I’ve also navigated a military deployment and a life lived across very different places and chapters. This means when you bring me your stress, anxiety, or complicated history, I bring a grounded understanding of how different life experiences can shape who we are.
How I Help
I want sessions with me to feel like coming to tell your friend about your life – my desire is to be someone who makes you feel completely at ease, genuinely heard, and never judged. But here’s the thing: I won’t just take your side. Real growth asks for honesty, and I will always bring that to you with warmth and without sugarcoating!
My style is direct, relaxed, and a little playful. I work from a CBT and Narrative Therapy framework and have completed my SYMBIS couples assessment training, which allows me to counsel and administer the SYMBIS assessment with couples. I work with clients ages 4 and up and with clients across a range of specialties including couples, families, trauma, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-esteem, and Christian counseling.
Early in my training, a professor read The Rabbit Listened to our class. It’s a story about sitting with someone through the hard stuff – not rushing to fix it, not talking over it, just being present. That’s the kind of therapist I’m here to be. The rabbit. A steady, safe space where you can bring all of it.
Outside of sessions, you’ll find me playing pickleball with my family, gaming with my boyfriend, eating ice cream, or taking a very intentional and restorative nap. I love to laugh, I thrive on routine, and I’m even eyeing a Ph.D in Clinical Mental Health Counseling down the road! My comfort show is Bones, and I am planning on adopting a dog soon – and I won’t say I haven’t already looked into the therapy dog pipeline, because I absolutely have.
