Online Therapy

Advantages to Online Therapy

We know that schedules can change in a moment’s notice – especially in today’s climate! We know that you are busy and that making it to your therapy sessions can be challenging. At reTHINK Therapy, we want to help you better understand yourself and make the changes that you are looking for in your life. At reTHINK Therapy, we want to help you stop living and start surviving and our flexible online therapy can be a great tool to help you do that!

Online therapy offers several advantages – it is convenient, saves time (zero travel time!), and you can do it from the comfort of your own home or office. We also find that early afternoon and evening therapy sessions often book up quickly. This can make it difficult to find a time that suits your schedule needs. But, if you don’t need to travel to an office to meet your therapist – you may be able to squeeze in a session between your busy schedule.

reTHINK Therapy’s online therapy also will give you the convenience to transfer your in-person sessions to online – right up until the moment of your therapy session. During this season where life can be unpredictable, we are excited to offer you options to attend your therapy sessions – whether you can make it to the office or not!

At reTHINK Therapy, we have been utilizing online therapy since 2014 and are well versed in the practice. It has been our experience that most insurances cover this form of therapy as they would a face-to-face session.

How Online Therapy Works

All types of sessions can be done online. However, we have found that kids sometimes struggle with online therapy more so than other populations. Using play tools with children can be very effective in therapy. For obvious reasons, it is more difficult to use play tools during online sessions. For this reason, we may recommend your child for in-person therapy if you are comfortable with office visits.

Online Therapy takes place over video, phone, or secure messaging platforms. Computer or smartphone internet connection will be necessary for a video or messaging session. However, for a phone session, the internet is not required and can take place on any type of phone – including a landline.

At reTHINK Therapy, we utilize HIPAA compliant Google Meets for your online therapy session. Your therapist will send your secure link before your session begins and they will be in a secure location for your session. This ensures your privacy during your session, and we recommend that you are also in a secure location to allow you to be open and vulnerable throughout your session.

We have also found processes to hold EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) sessions in online therapy. Your therapist is able to utilize screen sharing to show you how to self tap and recreate the bi-lateral stimulation experience. Allowing you to have your EMDR session online, from the convenience of your home or office.

Why Online Therapy?

Online therapy provides the obvious advantages of convenience and time savings. However, another benefit that you might not be aware of has to do with scheduling. Early afternoon and evening therapy sessions book up quickly sometimes making it difficult to find a time that suits your schedule. But, if you don’t need to travel to an office to meet your therapist, you might be able to squeeze in a session during lunch or between meetings. If you are interested in couples or family sessions, this might be a good option for a family whose schedule is already packed full. Finally, online therapy is a great choice for those that have permanent or temporary health issues that complicate traveling or exposure to others.

Make the Most of Your Session

Here are some tips that we suggest for a great online therapy session:

  • Find a quiet comfortable space that is private and free of distractions for your session
  • Per Nevada Ethical Guidelines, both you and your counselor need to be in the state of Nevada for your session
  • Bring a pen and notebook to record new thoughts and insights
  • Opt for a video session whenever possible
