About Summer

Hi – I am Summer and I am a Clinical Professional Counselor Intern (CPC-Intern). My partner and I moved to Las Vegas in the Winter of 2022 because of his job in the Air Force. We have two dogs, Stella our black lab, and Boots our rottweiler, that we love so much! You can catch us on the weekends, spending time outside together or finding places where they can come out with us in town. I love to travel, go camping, and do different types of movement, such as yoga or running. I find cooking very therapeutic and especially like trying new foods from different cultures, making Las Vegas such a fun place for me!

Little by little, my personal experiences have led me to the mental health field. I grew up in a family where I saw several members struggle with addiction, divorce, and facing the challenges that can arise in the LGBTQIA+ community. I also witnessed firsthand how mental health can be a factor for both military members and their partners – and they may struggle to seek out support. This has made me passionate about mental health and helping others through similar experiences.

How I Help

I have been on the other side of the therapy chair and leaned on my therapist when I was at my lowest. His warmth, steadiness, and calmness inspired me to become a therapist and work towards providing the same safe and supportive environment for my clients. In my journey, I’ve faced the profound loss of multiple individuals to suicide. While these experiences have been deeply challenging, they have also given me a unique perspective and empathy that I bring to my work as a counselor. Witnessing firsthand the complexities of mental health struggles and the devastating impact of suicide has underscored the importance of compassionate, understanding, and proactive support. It has strengthened my resolve to advocate tirelessly for the well-being of my future clients, ensuring they receive the holistic care and support they deserve. My personal encounters have equipped me with a depth of empathy and insight that I believe will enable me to connect more profoundly with those I serve, fostering an environment of trust and understanding as we navigate their journey toward healing and resilience.

I want you to feel at ease and know that you can discuss anything you need during our sessions. I like to build trust by supporting you where you are and being transparent about my life experiences so that you know you are not alone. My counseling style is eclectic, drawing on a diverse range of therapeutic modalities. I like to acknowledge how my clients perceive the world around them and how they see themselves in the world. I embrace a strength-based perspective, focusing on the inherent resilience and resources that individuals possess. Overall, my approach is collaborative, client-centered, and adaptive. My specialties include children aged 4 and older, women and family issues, military and first responders and their families, trauma, and anxiety and depression.
