About Jessica
Hello there! I’m Jessica Baker, Clinical Professional Counselor-Intern and National Certified Counselor, born and raised in Henderson and still thrilled to call it home. When I’m not in session, you’ll likely find me hiking a new trail or exploring a National Park. I’m currently pursuing my PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision at UNLV, and I care deeply about continued learning, for myself and for our profession! My doctoral focus is on training and mentoring new therapists so they can show up as the best clinicians possible. Ongoing education isn’t a box I check; it’s how I keep bringing you the most effective, evidence-based care!
How I Help
I know how hard it can be to find the right support, and my style is warm, collaborative, and human—sometimes even playful—because healing works best when you feel safe and seen. We’ll talk about what matters to you and build a rhythm that fits your personality and goals. I work with clients ages 10 and up, including teens and adults, and I offer care for the LGBTQIA+ community (I’m part of the community myself and love connecting clients with supportive resources).
I’m trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), an evidence-based approach for healing after difficult or traumatic experiences. In our work, we’ll start by building core skills—like grounding, relaxation, and emotion regulation—so your system has tools to lean on. From there, we’ll gently make sense of your story at a pace that feels safe and doable, and we’ll strengthen the supports around you so what you learn in session translates into everyday life. The goal is to reduce trauma symptoms while helping you feel more confident, capable, and connected!
I also use a polyvagal-informed approach, which simply means we pay attention to what your nervous system is doing—fight, flight, freeze, or fawn—and how your emotions show up in your body. Together we’ll practice practical strategies—breathwork, movement, grounding, and sensory tools—to bring your brain back to your body so you can think more clearly, feel safer inside your skin, and move through your day with greater ease.
I often weave in experiential tools like play, sand tray, and creative exercises because they help people of all ages explore tough topics in ways that feel engaging and less overwhelming!
I’m all about second chances—my switch from criminal justice to counseling was one of mine! In this work, I’ve seen how healing can open new doors. If getting support has felt out of reach, I’m here to meet you where you are and find the right tools to move your healing forward.
