About Aja

Hi, I’m Aja Wong, Clinical Professional Counselor – Intern. My path into therapy started with a conversation I didn’t see coming. During my final semester of undergrad, one of my professors pulled me aside for a chat. In that office, I opened up about the anxiety of graduating, the uncertainty of what came next, and the weight I’d been carrying. She asked me if I’d ever considered counseling as a career – and it turned out she was also the director of the mental health counseling program at the University of Nevada, Reno. That moment stayed with me. I’d experienced therapy before, but I’d never thought about it as something I could give to others. If I could create even one space where someone feels as safe, seen, and heard as I did in that conversation – the work is worth it!

I feel most alive in session when clients start bringing what we’ve worked on into their real lives and come back to tell me about it – whether it went well or not! Those moments reflect real growth happening beyond the therapy room. And I’m deeply honored every time someone shares something that took courage to say out loud. That kind of trust is something I never take lightly.

Outside the therapy room, you’ll find me in a pilates class, at a concert with my friends, or adding to my collection of Sonny Angels, Smiskis, and Labubus! I’m a New Girl and Friends rewatch enthusiast, and my comfort movie is Someone Great and Anyone But You. My friends and family would describe me as bubbly, witty, and (their words, not mine) a little clumsy – which honestly tracks!

A belief I carry into every session: “No rain, no flowers.” Hard things have purpose. And getting through them is always possible!

How I Help

I work with individuals and couples navigating some of life’s more complex seasons – including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and women’s issues. I have a particular heart for working with adoptees. As an adoptee myself, I know how layered those experiences can be – questions of identity, belonging, and personal history that don’t come with easy answers. I want adoptees to feel understood without having to over-explain themselves.

With couples, I love helping partners slow down, actually hear each other, and approach their relationship with more empathy and grace.

My approach is grounded, compassionate, and focused on creating safety – both in the room and in your nervous system. I want sessions to feel like a space you can actually breathe in, where you move through hard things at your own pace without ever feeling rushed. Over time, my hope is that you start to leave feeling a little lighter – like something has settled and you were truly seen!

I draw from CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, Gottman Method, and Narrative Therapy, pulling from what each person actually needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

I believe healing comes from lived experience and the intentional choices we make about how to move forward. Mistakes are human – they’re going to happen! What matters is how we reflect, what we learn, and whether we’re moving toward who we want to be. That’s the kind of work I want to do with you.
