About Melissa

My name is Melissa Chernoff, and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC). Music has always been a monumental part of my life and healing journey. My family is full of musicians, and it is not only something I was born into but something that created meaning, peace, and purpose in my life. Since I was young, I played numerous instruments and ran sound before considering a career in the music industry. Life happens, as it does, and I realized my desire to pursue the helping profession while never losing sight of where I came from. Whether it is live music and production, listening to the same tunes since grade school, or discovering a new band or artist, music has the power to heal. I believe that honoring and celebrating all that it means to the individual can bring light to the darkest seasons and encourage chatting about the power of music in our sessions together.

How I Help

Throughout my life, I have spent time ‘on the couch’ addressing my own life traumas. This has given me an enhanced and invaluable ability to see and speak to the vulnerabilities that arise as a client. Our environment and experiences create the lenses that we see the world through; some continue to serve us, and some we outgrow. Finding meaning in your experiences, past and present, is a unique and personal key that unlocks a deeper layer of healing and peace. My goal is to help you move forward in ways that feel healthy and authentic to who you are and who you desire to become. My eclectic approach allows us to tailor our work together to meet your individual needs.

My main priority when we work together is for you to be at ease, knowing that you can discuss anything and everything during our time together. I desire to provide you with tools and skills that you can take with you. I believe resilience and coping skills grow within an environment of hope, gentle exploration, mutual respect, and understanding. You are the expert on your life, and I see my role as a guide in helping you determine and move towards the goals that work best for you. I am passionate about working with underserved and underrepresented populations and approach each session with a non-judgmental, accepting lens. My specialties include seeing adult clients specializing in trauma, EMDR, addiction, grief, and anxiety.
