About Jieyu
Hi, I’m Jieyu Chen, Marriage and Family Therapist Intern. I’ve always been fascinated by people – by relationships, and by the ways our experiences shape who we become. The more I noticed the people around me wrestling with life’s challenges and relationship struggles, the clearer it became that this was the work I was meant to do! I wanted to create a space where people feel heard, supported, and understood in their hardest seasons – and that’s what eventually led me to therapy.
I feel most connected in session when you have a moment of insight or self-compassion – a child finding the words for a feeling they couldn’t name before, an individual recognizing a strength they didn’t know they had, a couple understanding each other in a new way. Those moments are why I love this work!
Outside the therapy room, you’ll find me spending time with family and friends, serving in my church community, trying new restaurants, or getting lost in music. I have a Shiba Inu named Seventeen (Shiqi) – who is gentle, a little timid, and full of personality, and she has a way of reminding me to appreciate the simple joys in life! My faith, quiet reflection, and time in nature keep me grounded, and I try to bring that same sense of groundedness into the therapy room.
I believe there’s tremendous strength within every person. When people begin to accept themselves, care for themselves, and recognize their own worth, that strength starts to shine through – and that belief shapes everything I do in this work!
How I Help
I work with children (6), teens, adults, couples, and families, and I feel especially called to support people navigating anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, and self-esteem struggles. My training as a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern shapes the way I approach this work – I don’t just look at individual symptoms, I look at the relationships and systems around a person, because so much of our well-being is shaped by the people closest to us!
My style is warm, gentle, relational, and collaborative. I don’t believe you need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy – sometimes what helps most is having someone walk alongside you, listen without judgment, and help you make sense of your story. I like to mix practical, hands-on tools for shifting unhelpful thought patterns with more creative, experience-based exercises, so our sessions never feel one-size-fits-all – we’ll find what actually fits your life and your pace!
For clients who want it, I’m also glad to integrate faith into our work together! As someone who values both emotional health and spiritual growth, I try to support people in ways that honor their personal beliefs, whatever those may be. I’m also fluent in Mandarin Chinese, so I’m able to offer sessions in either English or Mandarin.
My hope is that you leave every session feeling heard, understood, and a little less alone – even before your circumstances have fully changed. I believe people are far more resilient than they realize, and when you feel truly understood and gently challenged, real, lasting change becomes possible.
