About Kailey
Hi, I’m Kailey Granstrom, a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (MFT-Intern). I was born in Singapore and spent the first six years of my life there before moving to Connecticut. Travel has always been a big part of my journey, and between 2012 and 2015, I participated in a program that took me around the world—Guyana, the Philippines, Korea, and Peru. It was a time of deep self-exploration, where I reflected on my values, my faith, and what truly mattered to me. Connecting with people from so many different backgrounds opened my eyes to the richness of human experience and reinforced my belief in lifelong personal growth. Through these experiences, I realized that fulfillment doesn’t just come from achievements but from meaningful relationships and self-discovery.
For a long time, I wrestled with the question of whether I should pursue a career solely based in stability and gain or one that truly aligned with my purpose. Deep down, I knew I wanted to do something meaningful—something that would help others heal, grow, and find fulfillment in their lives. I was fortunate to have people in my life who created safe spaces for me to process my emotions and experiences, and I quickly realized that not everyone has that. That realization ignited my passion to become that safe space for others.
As an immigrant, I deeply understand the unique challenges of navigating cultural identity. I know the immense gratitude that comes with building a life in America, but I also recognize the struggles that come with that journey. This personal experience allows me to connect with individuals who are exploring their own identities and life transitions in a way that is both empathetic and meaningful.
Outside of therapy, I love being in nature, hiking, and playing sports like tennis and volleyball. My husband and I are passionate about travel and exploring national parks, and food is a big part of our adventures—growing up, my family even planned vacations around where we wanted to eat!
How I Help
I believe therapy should be a space where you can come exactly as you are. I want to hear your story—what you’ve been through, what has shaped you, and where you want to go. In our sessions, you will always feel heard, validated, and supported. My approach is warm, compassionate, and mindful, and I focus on your strengths and successes to help you build a more empowering and positive narrative about yourself.
I also incorporate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy when appropriate, ensuring that a foundation of trust and safety is built before diving into deeper processing. Before we begin EMDR, we focus on strengthening your ability to regulate emotions and navigate challenges with confidence. This process moves entirely at your pace, and we only explore what feels safe for you. My role is to support and encourage growth while always respecting your readiness.
When working with couples, I focus on identifying patterns rather than just addressing one specific issue. I help couples slow down and recognize the emotions and triggers that continue to surface in their relationship. My goal is to guide couples in working together as a team rather than feeling like they are working against each other. I provide tools, resources, and strategies to improve communication, deepen connection, and foster greater understanding.
Your therapy journey is a collaborative process, and I develop treatment plans with you to ensure our work aligns with your personal goals. Above all, my goal is to provide a safe, reliable, and consistent presence in your healing journey. Therapy should be a place where you feel understood, supported, and empowered to grow, and I’m honored to walk alongside you in that process.
